Inflation edged up to 2.0% in December, above November’s 1.8%, on faster price rises for food and transport. Inflation is currently far lower than in most economies of the region, due to mild domestic demand, government subsidies and lower rent prices amid emigration. Inflation should tick up this year due to an economic recovery, but will be low compared to Asian peers.
