Exchange Rate in Honduras
Honduras - Exchange RateEconomic growth should have bounced back in the third quarter, after slumping to a near one-decade low in the second quarter as a result of widespread protests. In the first two months of the third quarter, growth in economic activity accelerated notably, particularly in July when it registered a seven-month high. Moreover, inflationary pressures eased in the quarter as a whole, which should have buttressed private consumption. On the other hand, the trade deficit widened in August despite imports contracting for the sixth consecutive month. Meanwhile, Honduras was labeled a ‘safe third country’ after striking a deal with the U.S., allowing the Trump administration to send asylum-seekers back to the country. Domestically, widespread anti-government protests continued into late October—likely denting economic activity in Q4—and the opposition formed a new anti-President Hernández alliance.
