GDP per capita in El Salvador

El Salvador GDP per capita (USD) | Economic News & Forecasts

El Salvador - GDP per capita (U.S. Dollars)

The economy showed mixed signals in the second quarter. On the one hand, annual economic growth accelerated in April–May compared to January–March, partly thanks to strong expansions in the construction and financial services sectors, although a recent prolonged spell of dry weather continued to weigh on the agriculture sector. On the other hand, annual remittance growth slowed sharply in Q2 compared to Q1 despite a tight labor market in the United States. The drop off in remittances, which are worth a sizeable chunk of El Salvador’s GDP, will have dampened private consumption. In a move that could help improve remittances in the future, the government recently sent requests to several countries, such as the U.S., Australia and Canada, for increased temporary work visas for Salvadoran agriculture workers.
