Consumer prices record biggest fall in over one year in August
Latest reading: Consumer prices declined 0.9% on an annual basis in August, after July’s 0.6% fall. August's result represented the largest fall in consumer prices since March 2024. Looking at the details of the release, prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages fell at a steeper rate in August. In contrast, prices for transportation dropped at a more moderate pace. Meanwhile, annual average inflation fell to 0.2% in August (July: 0.3%). Finally, consumer prices dropped 0.21% in August over the previous month, a softer drop than the 0.52% fall seen in July.
