Exchange Rate in Cambodia
Cambodia - Exchange RateThe economy appears to be in tip-top shape. In January–July, 3.8 million international tourists visited Cambodia, which was an approximately 11% increase over the same period last year and was largely due to surging numbers of Chinese visitors. Given that the tourism sector contributed to over one-tenth of GDP last year, this suggests economic growth is on track for another strong reading this year. In addition, total credit lent to the private sector was up by roughly a quarter in annual terms in January–April. However, in August, the European Commission ended its six-month monitoring period of Cambodia to judge whether the country is still eligible for tariff-free market access under the Everything But Arms scheme. The loss of this access would be a blow, given that almost 40% of Cambodia’s exports go to the EU. The European Commission has until February 2020 to make a final decision.
