Unemployment in Brunei
Brunei - UnemploymentAccording to recently-released data, the economy contracted in the third quarter, albeit at a more moderate pace than in the second quarter. The decline was driven by lower LNG and methanol production, which was only partially offset by stronger oil output. More positively, the non-hydrocarbon sector returned to growth, although the expansion was only meager. Turning to the fourth quarter, although exports surged in October and November, the trade surplus narrowed markedly on greater intermediate and capital imports. This was likely linked to domestic infrastructure projects and suggests the external sector could have weighed on the economy in the period.
