Unemployment in Bahrain
Bahrain - UnemploymentThe economy likely posted modest growth in the second quarter, following the slowdown in the first quarter which was mainly driven by weaker mining and quarrying output, softer manufacturing and construction activity, and a contraction in the government services subsector. The government’s efforts to curb public spending as part of the Fiscal Balance Program likely continued in the second quarter, restraining the economy. That said, annual point of sale transaction growth was robust in April–May, as was private sector credit growth, which should have supported private consumption in Q2. Moreover, average non-oil merchandise export growth was strong in the quarter, notwithstanding a decline in June on weaker demand from major GCC members.
