Fiscal Balance in Algeria

Algeria Fiscal Balance | Economic News & Forecasts

Algeria - Fiscal Balance

Economic activity looks to have continued to recover in the fourth quarter of last year, on the heels of the third quarter’s acceleration, driven by a rebounding hydrocarbon sector. Output data shows that oil production rose in year-on-year terms in Q4—despite continued adherence to OPEC+ product cuts—which should have benefitted industrial production and the external sector. Turning to the first quarter of this year, the passing of new laws aimed at attracting much-desired foreign upstream investment in the oil sector bodes well for exports. Meanwhile, in politics, recently elected President Tebboune pardoned more than 3,000 prisoners who had been arrested for taking part in near one-year-long protests against the traditional political establishment, as he sought to quell discord that has hampered both business and consumer confidence.
