Czech Republic: Economic growth slows to a near-two year low in Q3

November 14, 2018

Annual GDP growth moderated from 2.4% in the second quarter to a near-two year low of 2.3% in the third quarter in seasonally- and price-adjusted terms, according to preliminary data released by the Czech Statistical Office (CSO) on 14 November. The main contributors to the third-quarter expansion were public spending and private consumption growth, which was likely buttressed by the extremely tight labor market and robust wage gains. On a quarter-on-quarter basis, GDP growth also decelerated from 0.7% in Q2 to 0.4% in Q3.

More detailed data will be released on 14 November.

The Czech Central Bank expects the economy to expand 3.3% in both 2019 and 2020. FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect the economy to expand 3.0% in 2019, which is unchanged from the previous month’s projection. For 2020, the panel sees GDP increasing 2.6%.
