GDP in Moldova
Moldova - GDPIncoming data for Q2 suggests that the economy is on a healthier track than was seen in Q1. Industrial production swung to expansion and exports rebounded to double-digit year-on-year growth in May. Nevertheless, the trade deficit widened as imports rose at a faster rate than in Q1. The contraction in banks’ private sector lending eased in June compared to May, signaling better prospects for private activity. Tensions arose on the political front however, as lawmakers voted to overhaul the proportional electoral system on 20 July and replace it with a first-past-the-post voting method, triggering a wave of street protests across the country.
