GDP in Kyrgyzstan
Kyrgyzstan - GDPPresident Almazbek Atambayev signed into law in late December the amendments to the Kyrgyz constitution approved in a referendum held on 11 December. The constitutional changes will strengthen the power of the prime minister at the expense of the president prior to presidential elections in October. Critics contend that Atambayev aims to become a powerful prime minister as he is barred from running for president again. On the economic front, preliminary official data showed that the economy expanded 3.2% in the January-November period. Centerra Gold, operator of Kyrgyzstan’s largest gold mine, received all legal permits to operate the mine in 2017, which should guarantee that there will be no disruptions to gold output this year.
