GDP in Haiti
Haiti - GDPOver a year of political uncertainty came to an end when Jovenel Moïse, the candidate supported by former president Michel Martelly, was sworn in as president on 7 February. While this is welcome news for the impoverished country, the road ahead remains challenging. The president has little popular support since just over 20% of the population voted in the last elections, he is implicated in a growing money laundering scandal and he faces the challenge of addressing the country’s severe fiscal distress, with the Central Bank estimating the hurricane reconstruction costs at over 25.0% of GDP. These issues are undermining Moïse’s economic platform, which aims to boost agricultural output and investment in infrastructure to support growth.
