GDP in Haiti
Haiti - GDPThe economic challenges besetting the impoverished country show no signs of abating. The latest official data from the first quarter of the current fiscal year shows that a contraction in the agricultural sector and almost stagnant growth in services brought the economy to a near standstill. The economy continues to reel from the impact of a devastating hurricane. Growing food insecurity remains a pervasive issue and adds to the list of economic woes the population is facing, including salary arrears in the public sector and higher prices for energy products since mid-May. The hike in prices for gas and other products is aimed at improving public finances but will depress household spending and stoke already-high inflationary pressures.
