GDP in Haiti
Haiti - GDPThe economy continues to languish. Dwindling agricultural output and the removal of energy subsidies have severely impacted household earnings in the impoverished country. Likewise, prolonged political turmoil has staved off investment and dented growth in the secondary and tertiary sectors. To jumpstart economic activity, the legislature is currently debating the draft budget bill for the upcoming year that plans to allocate 40% of the budget to infrastructure spending. Nevertheless, lawmakers argue that the government’s efforts to rekindle growth are insufficient since more funds will be devoted to servicing external debt than to reviving the ailing agricultural sector.
