GDP in Belize
Belize - GDPIn December, Belize’s exports shrank 10.7% year-on-year, which followed November’s massive 50.0% decrease and reflected a broad-based decline across commodities. These figures do not bode well for Belize, which is currently in recession and seeking to restructure its debt. On 17 January, a committee of Belize creditors turned down the government’s proposal to restructure its outstanding 2038 bonds. The proposed amendments included a delay in the amortization payment schedule and an interest rate cut. According to the committee, Belize’s current economic measures will not help mitigate future risks to debt sustainability and thus it suggested the country seek assistance from multilateral lenders to implement an adjustment program.
