GDP in Belize
Belize - GDPAlthough the economy likely remains mired in recession, there have been signs of hope as of late. In March, exports grew a massive 35.5% year-on-year. The print mainly reflected a sharp increase in sugar exports and a modest improvement in banana and crude oil sales. Adding to the good news, on 12 April, credit ratings agency Moody’s upgraded Belize’s sovereign debt rating from Caa2 to B3. According to the agency, the government’s more favorable debt payment schedule following the recent debt restructuring deal has helped decrease the risk of default. However, persistent macroeconomic and fiscal vulnerabilities will constrain the country’s creditworthiness within the B category for the foreseeable future.
