GDP in Turkmenistan
Turkmenistan - GDPOfficial data for the first half of the year presents a solid picture, with resilient hydrocarbon output and a strong harvest, along with large-scale infrastructure development buoying growth. Prospects for the hydrocarbon sector should improve going forward, with the recently struck five-year deal with Russia’s state-owned energy company, Gazprom, to export gas. Moreover, retail sales data, which improved markedly during the period amid rising wages, signals more rapid gains in private consumption. International reports have called into question the figures, however, and contend that the economy is in the midst of a crisis, battered by low gas prices, the halt of gas exports to Russia in 2016–2019, and poor agricultural production, which have sparked hyperinflation and widespread food shortages.
