Interest Rate in Georgia
Georgia - Interest RateAvailable data points to healthy activity in the second quarter, following a solid outturn in Q1 that was buttressed by an upbeat external sector. Although economic growth eased slightly in May, it remained firm nonetheless, propped up by the real estate, trade and hospitality industries. In addition, buoyant growth of tourist arrivals in Q2, coupled with strong remittance inflows in the same period, particularly from Italy and Greece, likely supported consumer demand. In other news, in an apparent bid to deescalate tensions between Tbilisi and Moscow, Russian President Vladimir Putin rejected calls by parliament to impose sanctions on Georgia. However, a flight ban remains in place, which may have an adverse impact on the all-important tourism industry.
