Interest Rate in Bolivia
Bolivia - Interest RateAlthough quarterly national accounts data are still pending release, available figures hint at upbeat dynamics so far in the year. Consumer spending, in particular, seems to have fared robustly through June, as evidenced by a marked expansion in turnover at restaurants and supermarkets, and buoyant growth in the purchase of motor vehicles. In addition, sustained growth in merchandise imports in January–July indicate healthy domestic demand. That said, declining vital hydrocarbon and mineral exports during this seven-month period suggests that net trade has dragged on overall activity. In politics, although President Evo Morales maintains a comfortable lead over his main rival Carlos Mesa ahead of the 20 October general election, polls suggest it might not be enough to avoid a second-round vote on 15 December.
