Vietnam: Merchandise trade surplus narrows in September
Latest reading: In September, the trade balance was USD +2.8 billion, following a USD +3.7 billion reading in the prior month. Over the last 12 months, the trade balance summed to USD +19.7 billion.
Exports rose 25.2% in annual terms in September, following a 17.6% rise in the prior month, underscoring their resilience despite the 20% U.S. tariffs introduced in July; the States remain Vietnam’s largest trading partner, accounting for nearly 30% of total goods exports. Imports were up 25.4% in year-on-year terms in September, coming on the back of a 17.6% rise in the prior month.
