Vietnam: Merchandise exports accelerate in April
Latest reading: Merchandise exports jumped to 20.6% in annual terms in April (March: +14.4% yoy), well above market expectations. Meanwhile, merchandise imports shot up 23.0% over the same month last year in April (March: +19.4% yoy).
As a result, the merchandise trade balance deteriorated from the previous month, recording a USD 0.6 billion surplus in April (March 2025: USD 1.6 billion surplus; April 2024: USD 1.1 billion surplus). Lastly, the trend pointed down, with the 12-month trailing merchandise trade balance recording a USD 18.7 billion surplus in April, compared to the USD 19.2 billion surplus in March.
