Thailand: Merchandise exports rise at a more moderate rate in April
Latest reading: Merchandise exports rose 9.8% over the same month last year in April, on the heels of March’s 17.8% upturn. Meanwhile, merchandise imports soared 17.2% on an annual basis in April (March: +9.4% yoy), marking the strongest result since September 2022.
As a result, the merchandise trade balance deteriorated from the previous month, recording a USD 1.4 billion shortfall in April (March 2025: USD 3.4 billion surplus; April 2024: USD 0.2 billion surplus). Lastly, the trend deteriorated, with the 12-month trailing merchandise trade balance recording a USD 23.3 billion surplus in April, compared to the USD 25.0 billion surplus in March.
