Switzerland: Retail sales fall at softer clip in August
Latest reading: Retail sales were down 0.2% in seasonally adjusted month-on-month terms in August, following a 0.4% decline in the previous month.
Relative to the prior month’s figures, readings in August improved for food, beverages, and tobacco (-0.1% in seasonally adjusted month-on-month terms vs -0.6% in July) and automotive fuel (+0.3% vs -1.8% in July). In contrast, the reading for household equipment worsened in August (-1.8% vs +3.0% in July).
In calendar-adjusted year-on-year terms, retail sales fell 0.2% in August, following 0.9% growth in the prior month.
