Switzerland Economic Sentiment December 2019

Switzerland: KOF economic barometer rebounds in December

December 30, 2019

The KOF economic barometer—a leading composite indicator for the Swiss economy—rebounded to 96.4 points in December from November’s revised 92.6 points (previously reported: 93.0 points). This marked the highest reading since April, although the indicator remained below the series’ long-run average of 100 points, suggesting the economy will expand at a weaker pace in the short-term than the long-run average rate.

December’s rise was due in particular to improving dynamics in the manufacturing sector, with indicators for the service sector and foreign demand also encouraging.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect GDP growth of 1.2% in 2020, which is unchanged from last month’s forecast. For 2021, the panel foresees GDP growth of 1.3%.
