Spain: Retail sales moderate at end of Q1

Retail sales rose 0.3% in year-on-year terms in March, following the 1.7% upturn logged in February. The print largely reflected increased sales of personal equipment goods.

On a distribution-based system, sales at single retail and department stores declined in March, while they moderated at small and large chain stores compared to February.

Annual average retail sales growth inched down to 0.6% in March from 0.7% in February.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists see private consumption expanding 2.0% in 2019, which is unchanged from last month’s forecast, and 1.8% in 2020.
