Spain: Growth in retail sales flat in December
January 30, 2019
Year-on-year growth in retail sales was flat in December, following the mild 1.5% increase logged in November. December’s print largely reflected a healthy increase in sales of household equipment goods being offset by a dip in food sales.
On a distribution-based system, sales contracted across most store types. Sales at single retail, small chain, and department stores declined in December, while purchases at large chain stores rose only modestly in the month.
Annual average retail sales growth inched down to 0.8% in December from 0.9% in November.
