Spain: Current account surplus moderates in June
Latest reading: The current account posted a EUR 5.0 billion surplus in June, deteriorating from the EUR 6.4 billion surplus recorded in May (June 2024: EUR 5.4 billion surplus). Meanwhile, in the 12 months leading up to June, the current account recorded a EUR 44.3 billion surplus, worsening from the EUR 44.7 billion surplus recorded in May.
The merchandise trade balance deteriorated from the previous month, recording a EUR 3.6 billion deficit in June (May 2025: EUR 2.5 billion deficit). Merchandise exports increased 2.4% on an annual basis in June, following May’s 0.8% increase. Meanwhile, merchandise imports soared 10.9% on an annual basis in June (May: +1.3% yoy).
