Romania: Industrial activity deteriorates in May
Latest reading: Industrial output dropped 0.6% month on month in seasonally and calendar-adjusted terms in May (April: +2.6% mom s.a.). The figure was partly driven by a deterioration in manufacturing production. In contrast, mining and quarrying output rebounded, and energy production rose at a faster pace.
On an annual seasonally and calendar-adjusted basis, industrial output grew 3.8% in seasonally adjusted terms in May, rebounding notably from April’s 2.1% fall and marking the best result since May 2022. Accordingly, the trend improved sizably, with the annual average variation of industrial production coming in at minus 1.7% in May, up from April’s minus 2.6%.
