Romania: Economic sentiment deteriorates in July
Latest reading: Economic sentiment fell to 94.7 in July from June’s 96.8, marking the worst performance since January 2021 and the third consecutive contraction. As a result, the index remained below the long-term average of 100, pointing to a muted near-term outlook for the economy.
The headline print reflected a broad-based deterioration: Sentiment in the industrial, retail and construction sectors deteriorated, and confidence in the services sector waned. Moreover, sentiment among consumers dropped to the lowest level since November 2022.
Considering indicators that are not used to calculate the index, employment expectations weakened, while the economic uncertainty index increased in July.
