Portugal: Inflation is unchanged in August from the prior month
Latest reading: Harmonized consumer prices rose 2.5% in annual terms in August, unchanged from the prior month’s reading and above the ECB’s 2.0% target for the third month running.
Relative to the prior month’s data, there were higher price pressures for food and non-alcoholic beverages (+4.0% yoy vs +3.8% in July) and transportation (+1.8% vs +1.4% in July). In contrast, there were reduced price pressures for recreation (+1.3% vs +2.4% in July) and restaurants and hotels (+5.6% vs +5.7% in July). Finally, the rise in housing and utilities prices was stable from the prior month (+2.2% in August and July).
Meanwhile, consumer prices rose 2.8% in annual terms in August, following a 2.6% rise in the previous month.
Lastly, harmonized consumer prices fell 0.10% in August in month-on-month terms, following a 0.35% increase in the previous month.
