Portugal: Consumer sentiment tanks, economic climate broadly stable in March

Consumer confidence collapsed to minus 34.1 in March, down from minus 14.5 in February. The print marked the lowest reading since April 2020.

Meanwhile, the three-month moving average of the economic climate indicator ticked up to 2.2 in March, from February’s 2.1.

FocusEconomics panelists see private consumption climbing 4.4% in 2022, which is down 0.1 percentage points from last month’s forecast. In 2023 private consumption is seen growing 2.1%. Panelists project fixed investment to expand 3.4% in 2022, which is down 1.3 percentage points from last month’s forecast. In 2023 they see it growing 4.4%.
