Peru Consumer Confidence June 2019

Peru: Consumer confidence falls further into pessimistic terrain in June

The consumer confidence indicator published by GfK fell to 92 points in June from 96 points in May. The index therefore moved further below the critical 100-point threshold that separates pessimism from optimism among Peruvian consumers. June’s reading represents the worst result in eight months.

June’s decline was likely affected by the impact of political tensions at the end of May, when President Vizcarra called for a confidence vote on the government. Consumer confidence remained below the 100-point threshold in all geographical areas. That said, it deteriorated in Lima, the northern part of the country, and the east areas. On the flip side, it improved in the central and southern parts of the country.
