Panama: Consumer prices record smallest fall since March in December

Consumer prices increased 0.31% in December over the previous month, swinging from the 0.10% drop logged in November. December's result was the sharpest increase in prices since June, and was driven by higher food prices.

Consumer prices fell 1.6% on an annual basis in December, a smaller drop compared to November’s 2.0% decrease. December's reading marked the smallest dip in consumer prices since March. The annual average variation of consumer prices ticked down to minus 1.6% in December (November: -1.4%).

Our panelists project that inflation will end 2021 at 1.2%, which is unchanged from last month’s forecast. The panel sees inflation ending 2022 at 1.3%.
