Panama Inflation September 2019

Panama: Consumer prices fall in August

October 14, 2019

Consumer prices were unchanged over the prior month in September, following the 0.3% decline in August. Higher prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages; alcoholic beverages and tobacco; and restaurants and hotels offset a sharp fall in transport costs.

Meanwhile, consumer prices fell 0.6% on an annual basis in September, matching August’s drop. Annual average consumer prices fell 0.1% year-on-year in September, following a flat reading in August.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect inflation to end this year at 0.5%, which is down 0.5 percentage points from last month’s forecast, and to end at 1.0% in 2020.
