New Zealand: Inflation ticks up in Q1

Consumer prices increased 0.8% from the previous quarter in Q1 2021, coming in above Q4’s 0.5% rise and marking the fastest quarter-on-quarter increase in over two years. In terms of specific categories, higher prices for transport and housing drove the quarter-on-quarter rise in prices.

Meanwhile, inflation inched up to 1.5% in Q1 from 1.4% in Q4, however remaining below the Central Bank’s 2.0% target.
