New Zealand: Consumer confidence eases in August
Latest reading: Consumer confidence came in at 92.0 in August, down from July’s 94.7. August’s result marked the worst reading since October 2024. Consequently, the index remained below the 100-threshold, pointing to worsening confidence among consumers.
Consumers grew more downbeat about both current and future conditions in August, and were less willing to buy large items. In recent months consumers have faced headwinds in the form of declining wage growth and employment, which are likely capping private spending in Q3.
