Mexico Consumer Confidence August 2022

Mexico: Consumer confidence decreases in August

September 5, 2022

Consumer confidence came in at 40.9 in August, down from July's 41.4. August's result marked the weakest sentiment since March 2021. As a result, the index remained entrenched below the 50-point threshold, signaling that consumers were pessimistic.

The fall came on the back of a deterioration in consumers' assessments of the future general economic situation, and current economic conditions. In contrast, consumers' views of their future personal financial situation strengthened.

Panelists participating in this month’s LatinFocus Consensus Forecast project private consumption to increase 2.9% in 2022, which is up 0.3 percentage points from last month’s forecast, and 1.5% in 2023.
