Malaysia: Inflation rises in August from July
Latest reading: Consumer prices were up 1.3% in annual terms in August, following a 1.2% increase in the prior month.
Relative to the prior month’s data, there were higher price pressures for food and non-alcoholic beverages (+2.0% in annual terms vs +1.9% in July) and recreation services and culture (+0.9% vs +0.8% in July). In contrast, there were reduced price pressures for housing and utilities (+1.2% vs +1.3% in July) and transportation (+0.2% vs +0.4% in July).
Finally, consumer prices were up 0.15% in August in month-on-month terms, stable from the previous month’s reading.
