Malaysia: Industrial production speeds up in August
Latest reading: Industrial production was up 4.9% in annual terms in August, following a 4.2% rise in the prior month.
Relative to the previous month’s data, the reading for mining and quarrying improved in August (+16.8% in annual terms vs +4.3% in July). In contrast, the reading for manufacturing worsened in August (+2.8% vs +4.4% in July). Finally, the variation in electricity and gas was the same as in the prior month (+1.6% in August and July).
In seasonally adjusted month-on-month terms, industrial production declined 0.3% in August, following 3.1% growth in the prior month.
