Luxembourg Unemployment May 2019

Luxembourg: Unemployment rate ticks up in May

June 20, 2019

In May, the number of unemployed workers stood at 15,124, down 2.2% from April’s result, while the seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate ticked up to 5.5% (April: +5.4%) to match that of the same month last year.

According to the Agency for Employment Development (ADEM), the rise in unemployment since the start of the year largely reflects new registrations in the social inclusion income program following the introduction of new legislation.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect the unemployment rate to average 5.0% this year, which is unchanged from the previous month’s projection. For 2020, the panel again also sees the unemployment rate averaging 5.0%.
