India: Inflation rises to a four-month high in March

April 15, 2021

Consumer prices increased 0.13% in March over the previous month, which was below the 0.19% increase recorded in February. Looking at the details of the release, prices for clothing and footwear increased at a noticeably softer pace, while prices for food and beverages continued to decline.

Inflation rose to 5.5%in March, following February’s 5.0%. Meanwhile, the trend was unchanged with annual average inflation coming in at February's 6.2% in March.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists project consumer price inflation to average 4.6% in FY 2021, which ends in March 2022. The estimate is unchanged from last month’s forecast. In FY 2022, the panel projects consumer price inflation to average 4.3%.
