Hungary: Decline in industrial activity persists in May
Latest reading: Industrial output decreased 2.4% year on year in May, matching April’s drop. While manufacturing output fell at a faster rate and electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning production decelerated, mining and quarrying output declined at a slower pace.
On a monthly basis, industrial production fell 1.3% in seasonally adjusted terms in May, contrasting April’s 1.5% expansion and marking the worst result since December 2024. Meanwhile, the trend improved slightly, with the annual average variation of industrial production coming in at minus 4.9% in May, up from April’s minus 5.1%.
