Guatemala: Economic activity growth loses pace in June
Latest reading: Economic activity grew 3.7% year on year in June (May: +4.0% yoy). Robust momentum in construction, domestic trade, financial services, information and communication plus real estate buoyed growth.
Meanwhile, annual average economic activity growth rose to 3.9% in June (May: +3.8%), pointing to an improving trend.
On the external front, merchandise exports growth rose to 9.7% in June from 7.5% in May. Moreover, remittance inflows growth rose for a second straight month in June, reaching 26.1% (May: 15.2% yoy) and increased further in July, hitting 30.1%; July’s reading marked the strongest expansion since February 2022, likely bolstered by stricter U.S. migration policies and rising deportation fears.
