Guatemala: Economic activity growth slows in April
Latest reading: Annual economic activity growth slowed to 3.8% in April, a deterioration from March’s 4.4% reading. That said, momentum in domestic trade, construction and hospitality buoyed growth. As a result, average annual economic activity growth held steady at 3.9% in April, matching March’s reading.
On the external front, merchandise export growth cooled in April to 13.6% in annual terms (March: +18.8% yoy) as front-loading ahead of U.S. tariffs eased. Similarly, remittance inflows growth softened to 7.4% in April following Q1’s near three-year high (March: +18.8% yoy), as fear of deportation tied to the U.S. immigration crackdown likely spurred earlier transfers by Guatemalans in the U.S.
