Guatemala: Economic activity gains speed in September

Growth in economic activity accelerated from 3.8% year-on-year in August to 4.2% in September. The print was buttressed by solid activity in the wholesale and retail trade; private services; agricultural; manufacturing; and financial services sectors.

On the other hand, annual average growth in economic activity was stable at August’s 3.5% in September.

Banguat expects growth of between 3.0%–4.0% in 2020. FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists see growth of 3.1% in 2020, which is unchanged from last month’s forecast. For 2021, our panelists predict growth to accelerate to 3.4%.
