France: Inflation rises in January

Consumer prices rose 0.15% from the previous month in January, down slightly from the 0.22% rise logged in December. Looking at the details of the release, prices for services rose at a softer rate in January, while prices for manufactured goods were largely steady from the previous month.

Inflation came in at 0.6% in January (December: 0.0%). Meanwhile harmonized inflation came in at 0.8% in January (December: 0.0%) and annual average harmonized inflation was stable at December’s 0.5%.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect harmonized inflation to average 0.9% in 2021, which is up 0.1 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2022, panelists see harmonized inflation averaging 1.2%.
