France: Inflation falls in August

Consumer prices fell a seasonally-adjusted 0.10% from the previous month in August, contrasting the 0.38% rise logged in July. August's result marked the sharpest decline in prices since January and was largely driven by falling prices for manufactured products.

Similarly, harmonized consumer prices fell 0.11% in August, contrasting July’s 0.40% rise. Moreover, harmonized inflation dropped to 0.2% in August from July’s 0.9%. Meanwhile annual average harmonized inflation ticked down to 0.9% in August (July: 1.0%).

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect harmonized inflation to average 0.6% in 2020, which is up 0.1 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2021, panelists see harmonized inflation averaging 1.1%.
