France: Harmonized inflation ticks up in October

Consumer prices fell a seasonally-adjusted 0.04% from the previous month in October, a softer decrease than the 0.51% drop logged in September. The reading was largely driven by a less pronounced decrease in prices for services. In addition, price pressures for food and beverages also rebounded from the previous month, while energy prices rose.

Harmonized inflation came in at 0.1% in October, up from September’s 0.0% result. Annual average harmonized inflation edged down to 0.7% in October (September: 0.8%).

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect harmonized inflation to average 1.0% in 2021, which is unchanged from last month’s forecast. For 2022, panelists see harmonized inflation averaging 1.3%.
