France: Inflation slows in August from the prior month
Latest reading: Harmonized consumer prices were up 0.8% on a year-on-year basis in August, following a 0.9% rise in the prior month.
Relative to the previous month’s figures, price pressures for transport reduced in August (-0.3% vs +0.4% in July). In contrast, there were softer fall in price pressures for housing and utilities (-0.7% vs -0.8% in July) and recreation (+1.2% vs +0.9% in July). Finally, the changes in food and non-alcoholic beverages and restaurants and hotels were the same as in the prior month (+1.8% and +2.4% respectively).
Meanwhile, consumer prices rose 0.9% on a year-on-year basis in August, following a 1.0% rise in the prior month.
Finally, harmonized consumer prices were up 0.48% in August on a month-on-month basis, following a 0.28% increase in the previous month.
