France: Industrial activity drops again in April

Industrial output dropped 0.1% month-on-month in seasonally-adjusted terms in April (March: -0.4% mom). The smaller drop came on the back of stronger energy production. Meanwhile, manufacturing production lost pace.

On an annual basis, industrial production fell 0.3% in April (March: +0.1% yoy). Meanwhile, annual average industrial production growth fell to 2.6% in April (March: +5.3%). This signals a worsening trend in the industrial sector.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists project industrial output to grow 1.4% in 2022, which is down 0.5 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2023, panelists see industrial output growth at 2.3%.
