Ecuador: Inflation continues on upward trend in July

Consumer prices rose 0.1% in July, after coming in flat in June. Higher food prices led the upturn, followed by a rise in transport and health costs. Meanwhile, prices for recreation and culture fell by the biggest magnitude.

Inflation inched up to 0.7% in July from 0.6% in June. Lastly, the annual average variation in consumer prices creeped up to 0.3% in July from 0.2% in June.

Panelists participating in the LatinFocus Consensus Forecast expect inflation of 0.4% in 2019, which is unchanged from last month’s estimate. The panel projects inflation inching up to 0.9% at the end of 2020.
