Ecuador: Economic activity accelerates slightly in February

Economic activity grew 4.8% over the same month of the previous year in February, according to the monthly economic activity indicator (IDEAC, Indice de Actividad Económica Coyuntural) released by the Central Bank of Ecuador. This was up from January’s 4.4% year-on-year expansion.

In month-on-month, seasonally-adjusted terms, economic activity rose 0.9% in February, after expanding 0.7% in January. Meanwhile, annual average growth in economic activity edged up from 3.7% in January to 3.9% in February.

Panelists surveyed for this month’s LatinFocus report expect the economy to grow 0.7% in 2019, which is down 0.1 percentage points from last month’s projection. For 2020, the panel sees the economy expanding 0.9%.
