Cyprus: Inflation eases in August
Latest reading: Harmonized consumer prices flatlined on a year-on-year basis in August, following a 0.1% increase in the prior month.
Relative to the prior month’s figures, there were reduced price pressures for food and non-alcoholic beverages (-2.3% vs -2.0% in July) and restaurants and hotels (+5.3% vs +5.9% in July). In contrast, there were more notable price pressures for housing and utilities (-4.0% vs -4.4% in July) and recreation (+4.9% vs +4.2% in July). Finally, the change in transportation prices was the same as in the prior month (-2.2% in August and July).
Meanwhile, consumer prices fell 0.9% in year-on-year terms in August, following a 0.9% fall in the prior month.
Lastly, harmonized consumer prices increased 0.81% in August on a month-on-month basis, following a 0.40% rise in the prior month.
